Impacts of Excipient Flow Properties on Feeding of Continuous Pharmaceutical Processes and Solutions for Overcoming these Challenges by both Excipient Formulators and Equipment Designers

As continuous manufacturing opportunities and applications continue to grow, so do the challenges of one of the main aspects of the continuous process, accurate loss in weight feeding. Conversely, even newly developed excipients with improved flow properties might also present other obstacles such as larger particle size distributions and densities, which could ultimately affect the final product’s drug release and stability. This presentation will focus not only on the current methods being investigated through some IPEC-Americas members on how best to improve the excipient properties through co-processing or reformulation but will also give specific examples of comparisons of improvements in overall feeder accuracy using these materials.
