In order to reduce this risk to a minimum and protect employees, these production areas and the entire system needs to fulfill high safety regulations. These regulations are summarized in the EU ATEX regulation. It defines all minimum requirements for workplace and equipment safety in such potentially explosive atmospheres.
For potentially explosive production areas, Coperion offers components such as rotary valves or diverter valves that reliably meet all ATEX requirements. Our decades of experience with explosion-proof components are already incorporated into the design of these components. Our technicians receive special education and regular training to perform ATEX-compliant maintenance. We also train customers and offer comprehensive ATEX services to achieve the highest possible safety standards in hazardous production areas.
ATEX directives for maximum safety
All minimum requirements for workplace and equipment safety in potentially explosive atmospheres are regulated by the EU ATEX regulation.
Directive 2014/34/EU defines the minimum standards for equipment and protective systems, including safety, monitoring and control devices. This directive covers the areas of design, manufacture, assembly, use and maintenance of the equipment. Compliance with this regulation ensures the safe operation of equipment even in hazardous production areas. The risk is reduced to a minimum.
Directive 1999/92/EC regulates health and safety standards for workers. This includes areas such as prevention, risk assessment and documentation.
Maintenance according to ATEX standards
Coperion technicians who perform maintenance or repair of components in potentially explosive production areas undergo special training and regular courses on current ATEX requirements. They have extensive experience in the scope of the components to be maintained and are familiar with ATEX-specific functions. This ensures that no errors occur on the respective system during maintenance work and the line is available for the maximum time.
Since all components have to be removed during maintenance, this also provides an opportunity for our specialists to thoroughly examine the overall condition of the components. In case of rotary valves, for example, they can take a close look at the gap between the housing and the rotor, the wall thickness of pressure-loaded parts, or the accessories (drive, solenoid valve, etc.). The replacement of wear parts is also possible on this occasion. In this way, our trained specialists can identify a large number of possible risks at an early stage during maintenance work and can minimize them.
Safety is our top priority
For maximum operational safety of our ATEX components, we recommend that both maintenance work and repairs be carried out by us, the manufacturer.
We offer professional ATEX service for all our Coperion components. Our qualified service technicians are fully familiar with all ATEX directives. We know every detail of our components and are therefore able to carry out maintenance and repairs in compliance with the highest safety standards.
Upon request, we will provide a manufacturer's certificate in accordance with ATEX regulations, confirming that the equipment meets the required specification. In addition, we work according to professional ATEX testing procedures and provide comprehensive documentation. Last but not least, our experts can provide recommendations on spare parts and possible upgrades - an additional advantage that you will benefit from.
In addition to components such as rotary valves, other machines and equipment from our range of products and services are also certified for ATEX applications. If you are interested, we will be pleased to help you. Please contact us!
