The demand for paint and coating products is steadily growing in India due to an increase in construction and continuous investments in infrastructure projects. Therefore, the interest in reliable process technology for the production of different types of paints and powder coatings remains unbroken. Generally, the production of paints involves the handling of various raw materials such as resins, additives, solvents, and pigments. They all fulfill a different purpose and can be difficult to handle sometimes, e.g. due to the sticky characteristics of many powders. Coperion offers a broad variety of rotary valves, diverter valves and slide gate valves with different design options for practically every requirement. These solutions and their advantages for the production of paints and coatings were presented at this year’s Paint India.
Components Optimized for Efficiency and Cleanability
Many of Coperion’s rotary valves are suitable for the processing of aggressive or even toxic materials and are thus used in different chemical applications. They not only regulate the flow of materials but also ensure efficient operations without jeopardizing safety. To increase the capacity of the production, our main models, ZRD and ZXD, come with very large inlets which ensure unrestricted product flow, thus high filling efficiency and optimized rotor lengths (lowest possible leakage air rates) results in higher capacities than usual rotary valves. Furthermore, the special inlet geometry provides the outstanding possibility to operate without leakage gas venting and the ZXD’s patented side covers with an upswept blow-through channel ensure optimal pocket sweeping. Additionally, customers can equip their rotary valves with convenient extraction devices allowing for free, unimpeded access to the rotary valve’s interior. This optional add-on significantly reduces the time required for cleaning which is a crucial efficiency factor when it comes to the production of paints and coatings.
In addition, we offer various types of diverter valves which can be installed in conveying lines or in gravity pipes. The two-way WZK diverter valve, our worldwide bestseller (> 100.000 units successfully installed), is popular in plants in India – also in the paint and coating industry. It is optimized for fast installation, easy maintenance and fast cleaning. With different pipe inserts, we can handle many types of challenging bulk materials, including fine, abrasive, cohesive and/or adhesive powders up to 5 barg with patented pressure-assisted K-seal (replaced the outdated inflatable seal design).
