The SPE Extrusion Optimization TopCon will help you to increase attainable throughput rates and improve product quality for any new or existing single and/or twin screw extrusion operation. Presentations will focus on managing boundary conditions - challenges relating to melt temperature & pressure, volume, torque and mass-transfer related technical issues. In addition to extrusion theory, upstream, die and downstream technologies, as well as controls architecture, system integration, data management and maintenance are integrated into the program to facilitate improved extrusion manufacturing efficiencies.

Turning Down the Heat: Smarter Shear Control in Twin Screw Compounding
Twin screw extruders are highly effective tools for efficiently and uniformly applying shear to melt and mix thermoplastic compounds. However, a fine balance often exists between achieving optimal homogenization and exceeding material thermal limits. This presentation explores practical techniques and design features for reducing shear and melt temperature in co-rotating, intermeshing twin-screw compounding systems. Topics include machine design characteristics such as screw geometry and specific torque, along with the role of pressurization and strategies to mitigate excessive shear during extrusion.
