ZSK Mv¹⁴: Twin screw extruder for products with high volume requirements

The ZSK Mv¹⁴ twin screw extruder series unites an optimally balanced large free screw volume with a Do/Di of 1.8, with high screw speeds and a high specific torque. Products with a specific energy requirement < 0.13 kWh/kg can be produced with high throughput rates reaching highest product qualities.

The specific torque of the ZSK Mv series twin screw extruders has been increased to 14 Nm/cm³. With this 24% increase in torque compared to the previous model, the new ZSK Mv¹⁴ extruders achieve a 24% increase in throughput when processing products with high volume and high torque requirements. At the same time, ZSK Mv¹⁴ twin screw extruders ensure improved product quality of the compounds when processing shear-sensitive products.

With its significant increase in torque, the ZSK Mv¹⁴ achieves the desired throughput ranges even at significantly lower speeds or with smaller extruder sizes. This reduces investment costs, energy costs and space requirements for compounders.

Technical Advantages

Coperion twin screw extruder ZSK screw elements

The deeply cut screw flights with a Diameter ratio Do/Di of 1.8 result in a very large free screw volume.

  • Very good feed intake of additives with low bulk density such as flours, starches, pigments, fillers, additives
  • Low shearing
  • Minimal thermal stress on the raw materials
  • Long residence time for reaction processes
  • Safe devolatilization

The ZSK Mv¹⁴ series is designed for speeds of up to 1,800 rpm.

  • Very high throughput rates
  • Low investment and operating costs due to smaller machine sizes at the given throughput rate
  • Favorable price-performance ratio

The specific torque of the Mv¹⁴ is 13.6 Nm/cm³. It has been increased by 24 % in comparison to the predecessor model ZSK Mv PLUS.

  • Increase in throughput of up to 24 % in comparison to ZSK Mv PLUS
  • Wide operating window
  • Great recipe flexibility

Electronically Secured Maintenance Opening at Gearbox Lantern

The gearbox lantern of Coperion ZSK twin screw extruders can be optionally equipped with an electronically secured maintenance opening. As soon as the screw shafts come to a complete stop, service personnel can open the gearbox lantern without tools, guaranteeing secure, easier access to the screw shaft coupling.

This feature, which is available from a size of ZSK 32, significantly simplifies screw changes and maintenance, which again reduces the machine’s downtimes, thus contributing to greater efficiency of the system.
