Continuous loss-in-weight feeder refill is one of the most important, but often overlooked, design requirements for successful and accurate continuous systems. This recent system provided by Coperion K-Tron illustrates a pharmaceutical conveying system to unload a pharmaceutical powder from bulk bags and then deliver it continuously via high accuracy loss-in-weight feeders to compactors below. The Coperion K-Tron loss-in-weight feeders included additional agitation for optimized flow of this typically difficult flowing powder. The pneumatic conveying pickup system was specifically sized and designed for fast and optimized refill windows for superior feeder performance. In addition, the vacuum pump was placed outside of the process area to optimize cleanability.
